Valparaiso, October 12 (ChinaMil) -- A taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLAN) which is composed of the guided missile destroyer “Lanzhou” and the guided missile frigate “Liuzhou” carried out a maritime joint exercise with the frigates “Lynch” (FF-07) and “Capitán Prat” (FFG-11), and five airplanes of the Chilean Navy on October 10, 2013.
The four participating warships of the two sides met in designated waters near Chile at 11:30, local time, marking the official opening of the maritime joint exercise. During the nearly-three-hour-long exercise, the two sides coordinated closely with each other, commanded each other’s troops and conducted the drill on such subjects as taskforce movement, communication drill and collaborative air defense successively.
It is learnt that the two navies conducted a deeper collaborative air defense drill based on taskforce movement and flashing light signaling. During the exercise, the PLAN’s warships coordinated closely with the Chilean ones and resisted the simulated multi-batch attacks launched by four Chilean PC-7 attackers, improving the warships’ coordinated operation capability and further deepening the military cooperation between the two navies.
