Chile considera comprar más fragatas tipo 23 del Reino Unido
La Armada de Chile está considerando la compra adicional de fragatas Type 23 de segunda mano, luego de que representantes británicos informaran que ese tipo de buques podrían estar pronto a la venta pronto, dijeron a Jane's fuentes militares en Santiago.
Chile opera tres fragatas Type 23 adquiridas de segunda mano en 2005 y comisionadas entre 2006 y 2008. El país ha estado interesado en comprar una cuarta por años.
La adquisición permitiría a la Armada de Chile reemplazar a la fragata Type 22 Williams (antigua HMS Sheffield), que fue adquirida en 2003 y que llega al final de su vida útil alrededor de 2025.

The Chilean Navy is considering buying additional second-hand Type 23 frigates after British representatives informed that ships of the type could soon be for sale, military sources in Santiago told Jane's .
Chile operates three Type 23 frigates procured second-hand in 2005 and commissioned between 2006 and 2008. It has been interested in buying a fourth for years.
The acquisition would allow the Chilean Navy to replace Type 22 frigate Williams (former HMS Sheffield ), which was acquired in 2003 and reaches the end of its service life around 2025. Support for Williams ’ Rolls-Royce Olympus and Tyne gas turbines will become more expensive and complicated in 2025.
